- ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable)ALARA is a control principle meaning an unavoidable contaminant should be reduced to a level as low as reasonably achievable, not merely below a legal limit.
- AllergenA food allergen is a substance, usually a protein, that can trigger a harmful immune response in sensitive people and must be declared under labeling law.
- Animal-derived ingredientAn animal-derived ingredient is one obtained wholly or partly from an animal, including insects and animal by-products.
