How V-Cert governs its certificates
The rules we operate under: the legal entity behind the marks, how certificates are granted and withdrawn, how complaints and appeals work, how we stay impartial — and, stated plainly, what V-Cert is not.
Certification only works if you can trust the certifier.
Anyone can print a mark. The question a careful buyer actually asks is who stands behind it, what they had to gain from saying yes, and what happens when something goes wrong. This page is our answer — how we keep ourselves honest, written down where you can quote it back at us. Eight sections, no fine print.
Section 01
The legal entity
V-Cert certificates are issued by V-Cert Inc., operating as V-Cert. Correspondence, complaints and legal notices reach us at the address below.

Section 02
The certification process, end to end
Certification runs as a remote desk review against the written requirements for each mark. In order: you apply online, your quote is scoped to the products you list, you approve it and send your document set, a human reviewer assesses it against the standard, a certification decision is made, and the certificate is issued. Certified products are then re-reviewed annually.
The full step-by-step walkthrough lives on how it works, and every requirement we assess is set out on each mark’s certification page.
Typical desk review: 5–10 business days from complete documentation.
Section 03
Granting, maintaining, suspending, withdrawing
- Grant. A certificate is granted only after a reviewer has assessed the complete evidence set against every requirement of the applicable standard. Incomplete files pause the clock — they are never waved through.
- Maintain. Certificates are maintained through annual re-review and change control: formulation, supplier or scope changes must be notified before changed products are marketed under the mark.
- Suspend. A certificate is suspended on evidence of non-conformity, misuse of the mark, or an unresolved substantiated complaint. The company is notified with reasons and a deadline to resolve.
- Withdraw. A certificate is withdrawn when a suspension is not resolved by its deadline, or immediately on evidence of misrepresentation in the application.
Section 04
Complaints and appeals
Anyone — a client, a buyer, a consumer, a competitor — can raise a complaint about a certificate, a certified product or our own work, by email to info@v-cert.org. Suspected misuse of a certificate can also be reported through the report page.
Every complaint receives a written acknowledgment with a case reference — the clock we hold ourselves to is stated on the SLA plates in the restraint ledger below. It is then investigated and answered in writing, with the outcome and its reasons, no more than 30 days later. Appeals are decided by a person independent of the original reviewer.
If a complaint is substantiated, the decision rules in section 03 apply — including the prompt status change that anyone checking the certificate number will see.
Section 05
Impartiality
Certification only means something if the certifier has nothing to gain from the answer. Three rules keep it that way:
- V-Cert does not provide consulting. We will not design your formulation, write your documentation or coach you through the standard for a fee — we certify against it, or we decline.
- No reviewer holds a financial interest in any applicant or certified company, and reviewer compensation is never tied to certification outcomes.
- Fees are quoted and payable regardless of the certification decision — a negative decision costs the same as a positive one.
Section 06
Use of the mark
Certified companies may use the V-Cert mark on products named in a valid certificate, following the published usage rules — minimum size, clear space, single-ink reproduction and traceability to the certificate. The rules and the downloadable seal kit live on brand assets. Misuse of the mark is grounds for suspension under section 03.
Section 07
How fees are set
Every quote is built from four inputs: the marks applied for, the product category, the number of SKUs in scope, and — optionally — the export markets whose labeling rules the review must cover. The quote is written, itemized and fixed before any work begins — there is no quote black box and no percentage-of-revenue pricing. Current tiers and the full fee anatomy are on pricing.
Fees are never contingent on the outcome of the review, and annual renewal fees are stated in the initial quote — not discovered at renewal.
Section 08
What V-Cert is not
Trust starts with scope. These statements are as much a part of our governance as anything above:
V-Cert is an independent certification body and is not ISO/IEC 17065 accredited. What each mark requires and the rules for granting, suspending and withdrawing certificates are published, and every certificate is verifiable by QR code.
- V-Cert certification is not a GFCO certificate, a Leaping Bunny license, a V-Label or Vegan Society trademark, or a Non-GMO Project verification — and it is never presented as equivalent to any of them.
- A V-Cert certificate does not guarantee acceptance by any retailer. Some retail programs mandate a specific scheme by name — if yours does, we'll tell you before you pay anything.
- V-Cert does not conduct on-site audits. Certification is a desk review of documents, test reports and declarations, and every standard says so in its own text.
The restraint ledger
Most certifier websites ask you to trust what they say. This one is built so it cannot overstate: surfaces stay dark until real data exists, and an automated guard fails the site's own build if a banned wording appears anywhere on it.
What stays dark until the data exists
| Surface | Goes live at | Today | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median review-time statistic | ≥ 10 completed reviews | 0 | Dark — waiting for the data |
| Countries-served statistic | ≥ 5 countries with certificates | 0 | Dark — waiting for the data |
| Client logo wall | ≥ 8 clients who consented in writing | 0 | Dark — waiting for the data |
| Case studies | ≥ 2 named studies approved by the client | 0 | Dark — waiting for the data |
Counts are owner-maintained and reviewed at each release. No example record is excluded from every count, everywhere.
One distinction, stated plainly: the client wordmark tape on the homepage is the track record of the team behind V-Cert across its certification programs since 2016. The gated logo wall above is different — it means V-Cert’s own certified clients, with written consent, and it stays dark until eight exist.
Wordings this site refuses
Each row below is enforced by the build guard: if any of these wordings appears on any page, the site cannot ship. Struck through here, on the record.
- Refused wording:
“ISO-accredited”We are not. The only sanctioned wording is the accreditation answer in section 08 — quoted in full, or not at all. - Refused wording:
“equivalent to Leaping Bunny”No equivalence claims to any other scheme's mark. If a buyer mandates a specific scheme, we say so plainly. - Refused wording:
“GMO-free”An absolute claim no review can prove. The scoped, testable claim is non-GMO. - Refused wording:
“guaranteed gluten-free”No absolute safety guarantees. Certificates state the exact ppm threshold the product was assessed against. - Refused wording:
“trusted by thousands”Fake scale. A count renders from real data, or it does not render. - Refused wording:
“world-leading”Superlatives are banned outright — leaders don't say leading. - Refused wording:
“the gold standard”Same rule. The standard is a published document, not a boast. - Refused wording:
“Gold and Premium tiers”Tier names count marks — Single Mark, Clean Label Trio, Full Five. They never rank clients. - Refused wording:
“from ~$…”No public prices — no floors, no ranges. Your quote is itemized, written and private. - Refused wording:
“Verified today”A timestamp renders from real data or not at all. This site draws one EXAMPLE certificate, labelled as an example on the same surface, and holds no certificate records of its own. - Refused wording:
“Apply now!”No exclamation marks in cold copy. Calm voice, one promise per sentence.
One further rule cannot be printed even here: no page of this site may name the team’s sister certification program — the separation is absolute, so the rule bans its own example.
The clock we hold ourselves to
Complaints · acknowledged
≤ 2
business days to a written acknowledgment
Every complaint gets a case reference, and an answer in writing with the outcome and its reasons.
Suspensions · on the record
1
business day, at most, from decision to changed status
A suspended or withdrawn certificate says so when its number is checked — never quietly left reading as valid.
The restraint is the proof.
Don't take our word for it
Every certificate we issue carries its own number and a QR code, and what comes back names its current status — a suspension or a withdrawal included. Check any certificate by number or QR code, any time.
