The factors that actually move the number
- Which variant you certifyLacto, ovo, and lacto-ovo vegetarian claims each define which animal-derived inputs are permitted. The variant determines which supplier declarations a review has to cover — egg and dairy chains included or not. At V-Cert the variant shapes the document set, not the fee structure.
- Turnover indexingV-Label fees are set by national partners and indexed to product turnover, with the exact formula unpublished (v-label.com, checked 2026). On turnover models, a successful year raises your certification bill even with an unchanged product list. V-Cert quotes on scope, never on revenue or turnover.
- How products are countedPer-product fees multiply across flavors and pack sizes. V-Cert prices by SKU band — 1–5, 6–20, 21–50 or 50+ — and additions within your certified scope are unlimited, so a range extension mid-year costs nothing extra.

A first-class mark, not vegan's footnote
Most certifiers treat vegetarian as an afterthought to vegan — if they offer it at all. That shows up in pricing: there is no published English-language rate for a dedicated vegetarian mark outside Japan. V-Cert treats vegetarian as a first-class mark with its own standard, its own certificates and the same fee structure as every other V-Cert mark: one annual fee per scope, quoted from the same four inputs.
For products sold in India, note that the mandatory FSSAI veg/non-veg marking is a legal requirement that no third-party mark replaces — an independent mark adds internationally readable verification on top of it, which matters most for exporters.
Pairing vegetarian with vegan or other marks
A lacto-vegetarian range and a vegan range often live in the same catalog, built from overlapping supplier declarations. Why does almost nobody publish vegetarian certification pricing?
Only a handful of bodies offer a dedicated vegetarian mark, and the two largest — V-Label and the Vegetarian Society — quote only after application; V-Label's fees are additionally set per country and indexed to turnover (checked 2026). The only published rate we found is VegeProject Japan's ¥15,000/yr.
Do lacto- and ovo-vegetarian variants cost different amounts?
The variant defines which supplier declarations we review — dairy chains, egg chains or both — not the fee structure. Your quote reflects marks, product category and SKU band; the variant is stated on the certificate at no separate charge, and anyone checking the certificate number sees which variant was certified.
Is vegetarian certification cheaper than vegan certification?
At V-Cert the fee structure is identical — one annual fee per scope, quoted from the same four inputs. Differences come from your scope, not from the mark. A vegetarian review can involve additional supplier chains (dairy, egg) that a vegan review excludes, so neither mark is automatically the cheaper one.
Can I add a vegan mark to a vegetarian certification later?
Yes. Adding a mark mid-cycle is a re-quote of the difference, not a new application — and because the document sets overlap, the added mark is priced below a standalone certification. If you already know you want both, a bundle quote from the start is the cleaner economics: one review, one invoice.
What does renewal cost?
Renewal is the same annual fee stated in your quote, re-confirmed each year for the same scope — no new application fee. If your scope grows (new marks, a larger SKU band, a new category), we re-quote the difference before anything is payable.
How long does vegetarian certification take?
The quote is immediate; the human desk review that follows typically completes within the window stated at the top of this page. That is the whole timeline: there is no site-visit scheduling stage in a remote desk review.
