What the review checks in a cosmetics file
Cosmetics hide animal derivatives behind INCI names — lanolin, carmine (CI 75470), keratin, collagen, beeswax (cera alba), silk proteins. The V-Cert Vegan Standard checks each ingredient’s declared origin through supplier documentation, remotely and in days. Cosmetics files can add the Cruelty-Free mark in the same review — one application, one invoice.

Questions specific to this file
Is vegan the same as cruelty-free?
No — vegan is about ingredients; cruelty-free is about animal testing. A formula can be vegan yet tested on animals, or cruelty-free yet contain beeswax. That’s why the two marks exist separately — and why V-Cert can verify both in one review, on one invoice.
Which INCI ingredients usually break a vegan claim?
Carmine, lanolin and its derivatives, beeswax, keratin, collagen, silk and some glycerin or squalane grades. The origin is rarely obvious from the INCI name alone, so the review runs on supplier origin declarations rather than label reading. The vegan pillar’s failure table lists the watch list.
Do you review our animal-testing policy under the vegan mark?
The vegan standard covers no animal testing within the certificate’s scope. For a public testing-policy claim with supplier declarations and a fixed cut-off policy, add the Cruelty-Free mark — it shares the same review and invoice.
Can private-label cosmetics be certified?
Yes — with the manufacturer’s documentation in the file. We review the formulation and supplier declarations from your manufacturer, under NDA on request. The certificate names the brand and scope, and its number is what your retail buyers actually check during onboarding.
